I just finished reading, Joss Whedon’s Fray (2003). The story propels the Slayer premise into the future, and in a visceral fashion. The writing is excellent as always, read Sugarshock (http://www.myspace.com/darkhorsepresents) if you haven’t already.
What I want to point out about Fray is the art work. Karl Moline has drawn such a great character that she jumps off the page. Her postures and facial expressions, all the characters actually, really give a sense of immediacy and presence. What blows me away is that every page manages to convey pacing and action. I can feel the motions, the sense of urgency. I read a fair amount of comics, but am not an expert by any stretch, so my noticing this may not be that unusual. Regardless it added to the enjoyment of the story.
